Pomona Health Career Ladder

Dr. Pumerantz, the president of Western University of Health Science, has envisioned a career pipeline since the early 1980’s. This vision became a reality several years ago when WesternU partnered with CalPoly Pomona and the Pomona Unified School District in order to support students within the community to develop an interest in and build academic skills that would eventually result in an increase of the number of minority health care professionals within the local community.

The Health Career Ladder program mission is to develop students from the Pomona community. The mission is based upon 5 pillars:

Academic Skill Set
Family Engagement
Peer/Faculty Mentorship
Community Service
Financial Counseling

The objectives are that by supporting and advancing foundational skills while exposing students to community service opportunities, the program will produce culturally competent health care professionals.
